Bedruthan Steps, Cornwall

Oil 12"x16"

I’m probably too close to the edge of the cliffs, which at regular intervals had large red notices with the caption “Vertical cliffs, extreme danger of death.”

It was however a wonderful point from which to paint, and this I felt put the warning into some kind of meaningful context.

This was about 6pm on Friday afternoon, and we were expected for a meal in Perranporth at 7.30pm. So as usual for me, painting was on the speedy side of quick. But I couldn’t grumble, having stopped three times during the day to sketch or paint – first at Bere Ferrers, then at Padstow, and now near Newquay.

This view was fabulous. The colours were much more alive than the photo shows. An encouraging start and I will continue with this in due course. In the meantime there are new things to paint.
