Late afternoon at Welney

This is the last of my sketches two weeks ago at Welney. The afternoon sun was behind me and casting the foreground into shadow.  Very still and quiet.

I was looking through my bookcases and found two books by Peter Scott, given to my father by my mother around the time they got married.  I like to think that these books perhaps inculcated in my dad a life-long interest in birds. Peter Scott was a consummate painter of wildfowl. All his paintings are on low-lying lakes, estuaries and marshes:
