Tulips and Butter tub

This is intended to reflect on my study of muted colours and chromatic greys. When it’s dried a bit I’ll finish it off. There is wide range of values, but most colours here are chromatic greys against which the blooms – a muted crimson – stand out as looking very bright.

The tub is typical Afghanistan/Pakistan. The inside smells strongly of rancid butter – a sort of cut tobacco smell. You either love it or hate it. I love it. This will definitely appear in more of my still lifes.
