Mutton’s Drainage mill, Halvergate

A fabulous windpump in a remote location on the Weaver’s Way in the Norfolk  Broads. We had to walk a couple of miles from Halvergate to get to it, and I was carrying my small watercolour/gouache painting kit. It worked pretty well I thought; the last touch was the water in the foreground using ultramarine watercolour and permanent white. Eventually I will get to use the gouache technique effectively, and this was an improvement on the last effort. Studiously avoided using white to produce any kind of foliage green – it just doesn’t work. After this we drove over to the site of my commission described in the last post.
