I was trying to capture both the height and the sombre lighting. In fact the only “white” area is the high window and light from a window poking through the top of the choir stalls. Pencil. A couple of figures were essential to esablish a sense of scale. In the Cloisters

In contrast, out in the Cloisters, all was brilliance and light, but still it was the play of light and shadow that interested me in this corner. Pencil and black ink pen. I was pleased with the shadows on the door which I think emphasise the characteristics of the Norman architecture.
